Developmental Disorder (PDD) characterized by severe and sustained impairment in social interaction, development of restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, and activities. These characteristics result in clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. In contrast to Autistic disorder (Autism), there are no clinically significant delays in language or cognition or self help skills or in adaptive behavior, other than social interaction. A large number of children are diagnosed between the ages of 5 and 9. Motor delays, clumsiness, social interaction problems, and idiosyncratic behaviors are reported. Adults with Asperger's have trouble with empathy and modulation of social interaction - the disorder follows a continuous course and is usually life long. Aspergers is not easily recognizable - in fact, many children are misdiagnosed with other neurological disorders such as Tourette's
Syndrome or Autism. More frequently, children are misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit (and Hyperactivity) Disorders (ADD & ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

I used the sleep
system and kidstrides for a child with Asperger's. He had trouble sleeping. He
has done great with sleep, temperament and behavior. He was not on any meds,
but was going to start. I think the products stopped him from starting the
meds.

My son has Asperger's
syndrome-which is a high form of autism. The only way I can describe him is he
used to be Rain Man- but now is like the absent minded professor. He was having
a rough time controlling his emotions-crying 3-4 times a day during school for
30 plus minutes at a time. We tried the mattress and comforter-he knew right
away he slept better because he is a light sleeper and he over slept missing
his Saturday cartoons! In about 2 weeks his teacher noticed a difference in
handling conflict-he know wears a necklace, insoles and has the sleep system.
He has done great for two years now. I'm a believer!

My daughter just
told me how much she loves the sleep system and that it helps her sleep through
the night. I didn’t realize this was an issue! She said that the reason she was
afraid to sleep in her room was because she’d wake up in the middle of the
night and become afraid, so she was afraid to go to sleep. She said that with
her sleep system she stays asleep and if by chance she wakes up, she call fall
asleep very easily. Whenever my husband would go on a trip she’d want to sleep
with me. She just informed me that as long as the sleep system is in her room
she doesn’t want to sleep with me anymore! Btw - my son, who was diagnosed with
Asperger syndrome, is falling asleep more easily and is more energetic in the
am! I'm excited to see how this will translate with his emotional control!
