Definition by Mayo Clinic staff..
The term "diabetes mellitus" refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood glucose, commonly called blood sugar. Glucose is vital to your health because it's an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It's your brain's main source of fuel.
If you have diabetes, no matter what type, it means you have too much glucose in your blood, although the reasons may differ. Too much glucose can lead to serious health problems.
Chronic diabetes conditions include type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Potentially reversible diabetes conditions include prediabetes — when your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as diabetes — and gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy.
Diabetes symptoms vary depending on how high your blood sugar is elevated. Some people, especially those with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, may not experience symptoms initially. In type 1 diabetes, however, symptoms tend to come on quickly and be more severe. Some of the signs and symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes include:
■Increased thirst
■Frequent urination
■Extreme hunger
■Unexplained weight loss
■Presence of ketones in the urine (ketones are a byproduct of the breakdown of muscle and fat that happens when there's not enough insulin)
■Fatigue
■Blurred vision
■Slow-healing sores
■Mild high blood pressure
■Frequent infections, such as gum or skin infections and vaginal or bladder infections
Although type 1 diabetes can develop at any age, it typically appears during childhood or adolescence. Type 2 diabetes, the most common type, can develop at any age and is often preventable.

I live geographically far away from my parents whom I see once a year. My father has the sugar condition and was managing well until 5 months ago. The sores on the soles of his feet were taking a long time to heal and worse of all his feet swelled due to poor circulation. When I walked in to the house I was shocked to see my father reduced in size, and appeared weak and helpless. He could barely walk inching his way with tiny steps. I had come armed with Nikken products. I taped a mini on a large sore and taped little "mag_biens" magnets (which I got at the Hong Kong office) on other sores which were almost healed. Then I put FIR socks on his feet. His feet were blue black and red at the same time and definitely very swollen. He slept on the Ultra kenkopad and I wrapped the travel pad around his legs. The next morning he said that he felt tingling sensations in his feet throughout the night and he slept very
well. When we changed the dressing we were so delighted to see the large sore dry out and some of the pus was drawn out on the mini. We stuck magsteps on his slippers so that his entire feet were in touch with the magnetic energy. In 2 days the swelling was dramatically reduced and the color of the skin became more normal and the blue black marks began to disappear. Best of all he walked to the garden, which he had not done in the last 5 months. Before the application of products on him every step caused him excruciating discomfort and the lack of movement made the swelling worse. His face changed from being weak and helpless to a happy and re-born person. I was 100% convinced with Nikken products before this experience but now I am 200% overwhelmed with enthusiasm to tell more people how they can really really impact the lives of people they care for. We have so much potential in our hands with these great products.

Jerry and I would like to update our testimonial on how our special “Miracle” changed our lives. Our “Miracle” happens to be the Nikken Wellness Products.
In December 1991, I found I had a very serious blood sugar problem requiring injections each day to keep it under control. During the next two years I learned to handle this illness and keep it as close in control as possible.
In November, 1991, I had surgery on an ankle for discomfort in the ankle area on the left foot, which was to be followed by surgery on the right ankle, left and right wrists and left and right elbows. The first surgery (on the left ankle) was not successful, resulting in the feeling not returning to the toes, or the bottom on my foot and heel, not able to lift my foot when walking, excessive swelling from the toes to the hip, and extreme discomfort, the extent I was unable to walk without using a cane, walker or wheel chair This severe discomfort continued and in June 1992, I started experiencing discomfort over my entire body in the muscles and tendons as well as in the head area. I was unable to lie down in bed at night, so slept in a recliner for 2 ½ years with my foot elevated on ice for the discomfort. I had severe discomfort in the colon area, which was blocked and my stomach swollen and distended. I then found I had a disease in the muscles and tendons over my whole body, including the colon area, jaws and teeth and fluid build-up in the head area. In March of 1993 I had an attack with permanent damage to my heart. During this time I was having more and more problems just being able to lead a normal life. I was unable to do my housework, laundry, grocery shopping or cooking meals. I had always loved to work in the lawn and with my flowers, mowing over five acres + 2 lawns each week. Many times while on a short vacation or even to Des Moines to eat out or shop, Jerry had to take me to an emergency room in a hospital wherever we were near. I could only ride in the car for maybe 30 to 40 minutes before I had to get in back and lie down. We had to sell my favorite car (a Thunderbird) because I could not get my leg in and out of the car by myself. After getting stranded a couple of times I couldn’t drive alone again. My worst times were at night … Jerry would stay up with me (sometimes only getting maybe 2 hours sleep a night and working all day). My blood pressure would run extremely high and I filled with fluid around the heart area. My blood sugar was out of control, taking 7 to 10 injections each day with 3 different insulins. The discomfort was unbearable at times, even to the point of going unconscious. From January to July of 1993 I had five injections in the ankle area. In August, 1993, I had five injections in the ankle area. In August 1993, found the bone in the foot, leg and hip was deteriorating (honeycombed) from the loss of calcium. At this time I was
given four injections into the spine area 10 days apart. About a month later the discomfort had reached a level of severity I could barely endure. In February 1994 the specialist I saw for discomfort called and wanted Jerry and I to come to his office. I had just had a test on the discomfort. When we went to see the specialist, he told me my physical condition was serious or critical, the medical profession could do no more for me. The discomfort I was in could cause me to have another attack with y heart, or my high blood pressure could cause serious problems and my blood sugar problem was critical. He had talked to my physician at home, as well as the one that had done the vein study, and had set me up “as needed” for injections of a narcotic for discomfort. She would take 1 to 3 nitro’s a day. The pain specialist said they had done all they could do and she should get her life in order, she wasn’t going to make it. She would use a walker, cane, wheel chair and they were going to amputate her leg. About three weeks later, the latter part of March 1994, a Nikken distributor learned about me and came to see me. She had a set of Nikken magboys with her and spun them over my ankle area. I could feel some difference … she also had a video I saw called “Humans Being More”. We watched the video … then I did something I would normally never do without consulting Jerry … I BOUGHT ABOUT $1,100.00 WORTH OF NIKKEN PRODUCTS!!. When I told him what I had done, his “thought” was “if she thinks it will help, it’s o.k.” AND IT DID!!! Since then Jerry and I have come a long way to total wellness with Nikken. (I also have my foot and leg, which were bad enough a well-known surgeon suggested amputation). Now my blood pressure has gone down. I have my feeling back in my toes, I haven’t taken muscle medicine for 3 years, and when my doctor examined me he said he could see no sign of ever having a heart attack, my heart was perfect. The “secret to success” with Nikken Wellness Products is to use them wherever you have a discomfort. DON’T use them for one day, one week, one month, then decide they don’t work and leave them in the drawer or on the shelf in the closet; that drawer or that shelf doesn’t have a discomfort, you do. Please let it work for you as it has worked for us and for the people we have contacted that are also leading a better quality life because of Nikken Wellness Products. Another thing to remember is … “You can’t put a price on your health, it is priceless!” We feel since Nikken put quality back in our lives and gave me back my life, we should let people know and experience what Nikken has to offer. Each time we find someone experiencing their “Miracle” we get another “Million Dollar Bonus” … we are happy you are sharing our Nikken “Miracle” just by reading this letter.

In many parts of the world it is now recognized that people with diabetes are between 15 and 70 times more likely to undergo lower limb amputation than people without diabetes. This is because certain aspects of the condition influence the feet - making them more likely to be damaged. It is always better to try and prevent problems and doctors now know the types of things that increase the risk of problems with the feet. The risk factors are peripheral neuropathy (altered feelings and sensations in the foot), peripheral vascular disease (poor circulation) and callus and foot deformity (altered skin and bone anatomy). Peripheral neuropathy may cause pain in the feet and it is very
difficult to treat. These factors may or may not be present in every case - the important thing is to make sure that the person is seen by clinic team who can provide good care. The clinic team might include a doctor that specializes in diabetes, a vascular surgeon, a podiatrist (who looks after feet) and an orthotist (that can make/prescribe special shoes). It is most important that you trust your doctors to do the right thing now. There are many things that can be done to help healing and certainly from many points of view that would be the best thing if it is judged possible. If it is still judged possible to attempt healing then our products might be valuable to assist healing. In general, if I meet someone with diabetes and no existing problems with their feet I encourage them to use the magstrides as a
preventative measure and also the sleep system for general health. I feel it is really important that people who already have problems with their feet get advice from a podiatrist or orthotist prior to using the magstrides. This is because sometimes special shoes and insole materials are used to reduce the damage that can be done through pressure and rubbing. Using even the soft surface magstrides can alter the pressures applied to the foot within the shoe and cause problems. People with diabetes should take care to protect their feet and may need such special shoes if they are at risk. I have had orthotists incorporate the magstrides into the shoes Michael I. Weintraub, MD, FACP in the USA has carried out research work that suggests real value of our insoles for people with diabetes and painful feet due to peripheral neuropathy. It has not been shown scientifically that the insoles reverse the nerve damage
but they do seem to have value for the general discomfort. I'm sorry that I can't be too specific - but I hope this helps a little.

About three years ago when I started Nikken my husband mentioned magnetic to his kidney doctor. His reply was "Snake Oil". Well we tried the magsteps first because of foot problems that he had. Almost lost a toe once. Was in the hospital 3-4 times a year. Got infection from even a small cut or scratch, which would usually put him in the hospital to get them cleared up. All of his blood counts were way to high and hard to control. It has now been over three years since he has been in hospital. in September when he went for his check-up his blood counts were better than they were the time before and are all now in the middle to low normal range. Shortly after the magsteps we got the sleep system. He takes the Multi-Multivitamin, For Men, and Garlic. So we believe that the products have helped with his health problems.

Tilley, age 65 and a diabetic was referred to me. I invited Tilley to the Wellness Preview so she could learn about the technologies first, and then she could demo products.... I sat her on the keno seat, put the travel quilt on her lap, put one foot on the magsteps, put a FIR wrap on her hand, necklace around her neck, went to get her a glass of ice tea, and by the time I got back to her 1-2 minutes, she was feeling relief with her neck. By the end of the preview she was feeling really different, thought she might be able to dance! Very relaxed. She also had arthritis in her hands, and the one hand that had the wrap on it was flexible and she could make a tight fist, the other was stiff, she showed me that! I sent her home with a kenko seat to sleep on, she slept all night and woke up ready to get up and
go. (She had a chiropractor appointment that morning, she asked him about magnets, he told her they don't work).... I gave her a relax treatment, put the sleep system on her bed, (she had 6 blankets and an electric blanket that she uses in the morning because her feet are cold in the a.m...)magsteps in her shoes, sleep mask, and magboys. That afternoon she took a friend to get her drivers license and her friend mentioned that she was walking better today... This morning I called her she slept all night on the system (and the pillow!) she said her feet were not cold, and that she was cleaning out a storage shed, she had been walking around her yard all morning, picking things up. I told her not to over do it...take it easy. One night and she is a different person. I love this business, she told me God sent
me to her.... I had to agree!

I had Neuropathies up to my shin and as a new Diabetic I, and of course worried about someday losing my feet. I was given the Magsteps just so that I could play golf more comfortably. They worked and the rest is history. I am still a diabetic and I still have to be careful and occasionally will have difficulty with my sensitive feet. However, I know that they are under control and I have an important answer to my health problem. Now, tell this doctor that only about 15% of the stuff he uses is backed by scientific investigation, and the only thing he would need to see is that all research and scientific data, regarding magnets, states that they "do no harm." Depending on your relationship with him/her you may also say that equals his Hippocratic Oath, to do no harm and that to
withhold due to ignorance could be irreparable harm. I am amazed by the incredible volumes of clinical data that talk about Diabetics saving their appendages from amputations, even when that surgery is scheduled to occur. On of the best ever is John Diehl, DPM of North Carolina.

I am an Insulin dependant diabetic and I take Joint and Liver Support and find them very effective. Fat Metablism seems to lower the amount of insulin I have to take to keep my blood sugar in control.

I met a Nikken distributor who gave her story at a Wellness Preview. She had numb feet and legs for six years. She used magsteps 24 hours a day and got complete feeling back in her legs, feet, and toes after several weeks. Her name is Doris Crowder. Her Dr. was aware of what she did and can verify what happened. The day after we heard her story, we learned of an old friend who had diabetes and was going to have a foot amputated. We went to her right away and she agreed to use the magsteps 24 hrs a day. She said she was to go to the surgeon in 3 days to set the amputation date (in about 3 weeks). When she went to the Dr. after using the magsteps 3 days, he said that her foot seemed to be improving and that they would postpone the surgery. Joan Stroup

From someone suffering from diabetic peripheral neuropathy, I would recommend that you immediately start him with the magstrides. Watch his gait, then add the magstrides and watch the gait again for balance, et al. Then add a necklace and check the gait again. Continue to add more necklaces one at a time and watch the gait. I recently had a lady in my practice that has familial cerebellar ataxia and her gait was atrocious. I saw her in the office one day and followed this procedure. Although she could barely walk in a straight line when she walked in the door, after adding the magstrides and two necklaces, she could actually heel-toe walk in a slightly cumbersome manner. This is where someone places their heel right in front of the other foot's toes and then continues this procedure. We also began adding some super-minis into her pockets and this provided further stability in her balance. I don't know if it has
simply improved her axial strength, therefore effecting better balance, or if it improved the balance as a separate mechanism, but who cares. I would also put your brother in a pair of the socks (find the dress socks superior) to improve temperature regulation and hence will help as much as possible with the perfusion of the distal areas of the feet. With bionutritionals, I highly recommend using the Multi-vitamins, the Supplement For Men, the antioxidant, the Joint formula, the Mental Clarity, and the Digestion. These will provide significant levels of valuable antioxidants, will include the enzymes for effective breakdown of foodstuffs, can effect positive changes in the distal joints, and will begin to address the problems that occur with diabetes mellitus in the macro-vasculature and the micro-vasculature. It may take several months to notice a big difference, but if you hang in there, you will see results. Lastly, there is no question that its essential to stay very well hydrated with the Pi Water, and refrain from all use of caffeine and tobacco, and this is vital!

The following is a summary of: Third Phase of the Weintraub STUDY on the effects of Nikken Magnetic Insoles on Diabetic Neuropathy.
_ Approximately 260 patients with Diabetic Neuropathy took part
_ The Longitudinal Study was carried out at 83 different hospitals by their Dept. heads, according to strict randomized doubleblind / placebo design _ The lead researcher was internationally known Michael Weintraub, M.D., FACP
_ The results of this study [which have been tabulated and reviewed by NIH], will be reported as the Keynote Address for the annual meeting of the American College of Neurology as well as appear in the upcoming issues of BOTH JAMA and NEJM (Journal of the American Medical Association) (New England Journal of Medicine) Sept. 2001 issue
RESULTS:
_ 90% OF THE PATIENTS REPORTED A POSITIVE OUTCOME, I.E. REDUCTION IN DIABETIC NEUROPATHY
SYMPTOMS (numbness, tingling, burning)
_ REPORTED INCREASE IN MICROCIRCULATION (foot warmth)
_ REPORTED INCREASE IN BALANCE and COORDINATION
CONCLUSIONS:
_ All Magnetic Insoles are NOT created equal !
_ Nikken EQL (tm) Design was THE ONLY insole that provided consistent results
_ Use of these insoles will slow the progression of Diabetic Neuropathy and conditions related to compromised
Microcirculation (Diabetic Ulcers, Gangrene)
_ Reduction in foot amputations (approximately 54,000 annually)
