My Story
On September 19,1997, I was 40 years old, in excellent health and physically fit. I was a triathlete, which meant that each day, I would ride my bike, swim, and go for a run. At 6'1" tall and 175lbs., I looked like the picture of health. On September 20, I woke up with an agonizing headache, feeling dizzy, and almost passing out. By the time I got to the doctor, my ears were ringing and I had a fever. Thinking that I had an ear infection, my doctor wrote a prescription and thought I would be better in a few days. But, instead I got worse, experiencing weakness in my legs, tingling sensations from head to toe and diminishing strength. My feet burned like they were on fire.
I was referred to a local neurologist and began a three year ordeal during which I saw more than ten specialists (including specialists at Johns-Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic) and participated in a series of experimental treatments involving more than 20 prescription drugs. I had weekly blood tests, underwent numerous biopsies, MRI's and even had a nuclear body test. As treatment after treatment failed, and as my symptoms changed and got progressively worse, I was told by the doctors that they did not know what else to do.
I describe below some of what happened to me during those three years and the profound benefit I have received from Nikken wellness technologies. Back to 1997... the local neurologist conducted numerous nerve and muscle diagnostic tests. I overheard the doctor ask his assistant to redo the tests, because I should not have been able to walk given the results. The tests came back abnormal again. I was sent to the hospital for a spinal tap and additional blood tests. The results were normal.
Perplexed by my symptoms and inconsistent test results, the neurologist referred me to Johns-Hopkins. At this point my body weight had dropped 20 lbs. My muscles were deteriorating, and I barely had enough strength to climb stairs. My right hand was getting weak, and I experienced severe nerve tremors, twitching, and muscle spasms, flaring up when I lay down and makingit virtually impossible to sleep without medication.
At Johns-Hopkins, one of the leading neurologists diagnosed a peripheral nerve disorder. My prospects were optimistic with treatment. But, I began to experience additional symptoms not consistent with the diagnosis. My lymph nodes enlarged, I had night sweats, and shortness of breath. As these are symptoms of Hodgkins disease and lymphoma, the doctors ordered more blood tests, but the results were normal.
By this time, I had dropped 30 lbs. in body weight, could barely walk upstairs without help, and I was fatigued all day. Also, the muscle on my right side had atrophied from my neck to my waist. It looked like the muscle was carved away. My right hand was so weak that I could barely use it. I was taking methadone during this time, because of widespread discomfort. I remained on the drug for a year, and had several side effects as a result. The drug caused dizziness, nausea, and sedation.
But, once again new symptoms developed. Sores and white spots appeared on my skin, and I experienced heart palpitations so severe that my heart felt like it would jump out of my chest. It was becoming difficult to swallow at times, and I needed to put my food in a blender.
I returned to Johns-Hopkins, and after additional nerve and muscle biopsies was given the devastating news that I had an incurable and fatal neuromuscular disorder, the same fate as former baseball great Lou Gehrig. I sought additional opinions from specialists at the Mayo Clinic, and the University of Miami, but the diagnosis was confirmed. The doctors requested a series of experimental treatments which involved going to the hospital for several days, and having daily infusions. The infusions were supposed to boost my immune system, but the effect was negative. I also had intense headaches after the treatments.
Having spent more than fifty thousand dollars of my money with no beneficial effect, I began to prepare for my eventual demise. I revised my will, and looked into intensive care facilities. I cannot describe the depth of my depression at this point. I was completely frustrated at the failure of all the treatments I had received, not to mention that I could barely manage the basics of living. I resigned to struggle through as best I could and tried to wean myself off some of the medication I was taking.
Then in late March 2001, my friend Martha Fruehauf called and told me about her very positive response using Nikken technologies. She has struggled for years with a debilitating health problem and was doing remarkably better. I have known Martha for many years and she is very credible so I decided to try some of Nikkens products for myself.
I began by using the magsteps(magnetic shoe inserts). The first day, there was an exacerbation of my symptoms, and I almost removed the insoles from my shoes. But, I decided to wait. By the second day, the symptoms were starting to relax. On the third day, I noticed an increase in my energy level and I became excited. I wanted to try more of Nikken products. I got a water bottle, the basic five nutritionals, the joint supplement, a set of mag boys, and a back flex. I soon ordered a PiMag unit for the home, because I did not have the strength to squeeze the water bottle.
I also purchased a sleep system. Within one week after using these additional products, I began to sleep for more than a few hours a night, and was waking up in the morning feeling refreshed. My strength was getting better, and for the first time in three years, I was able to walk upstairs free of agonizing muscle spasms. I was astounded. I was gaining weight, and was able to wean myself off some of the medication I was taking. I went to my doctor and had some lab tests done, and already the results were improving.
Over the next month, I began to see the muscle on my right side come back. This meant that the nerves were regenerating, an improvement that I was told would not happen. I ordered more of Nikkens products, including the kenkotherm wraps, necklace, bracelet, and the shower water filter. After using the shower head for a couple of weeks, the sores on my head and back were clearing up, and the skin on my entire body looked healthier.
Because I continued to feel better physically, my mental condition is drastically improved. Instead of dreading each day, and fearing a continued existence of agony, I can look forward to the future. Three months after beginning to use Nikkens products, my labs returned to normal. I was so happy when I heard the news, that I came home, dusted off my bike, and for the first time in three years was able to ride. It felt so wonderful that I also went for a brief run. I felt like I was sitting on top of the world.
I have my health back. I am living a dream come true. I am so excited about Nikken, not only what the products have done for me physically, but the opportunity it has given me to help others improve their health. I want to tell everyone about Nikken.
In closing, I thank my friend and sponsor Martha, who encouraged me to try Nikkens technologies. I am thrilled to be a part of her group and a member of the Nikken family. Without them, I know I would not be where I am today.

Hi Gang
I spoke to a young man, not yet 30, dealing with rapidly advancing ALS. So far, it is manifesting as weakness in his left arm - no respiratory fatigue, dysphagia, slurred speech or vision - etc. Amazing attitude - he considers himself lucky!
Two things;
i) I was mountain-biking with a group of very fit triathletes when I got that call. Twenty minutes after the call had ended and we were bombing back down the mountain we had just climbed, one of my fellow riders stopped me - moved to the verge of tears, grateful for having the health he enjoyed compared to the fellow I had just spoke to. In the same breath, he thanked me and my Nikken network for reaching out and helping people like that man.
We do make a difference!
ii) is there anyone in the Forum who has direct experience working with our products and an ALS patient? He bought a Professional pak and is using everything in it religiously. He is very keen to get one of the new KenkoLights at the launch.
Any suggestions or expertise would be much appreciated.
